Fawns In A Wood

Description

I never did get this quite right, but I needed to get it out of my head so I could move on.  Originally this was with a Pestryakov forest set, but that just could not render in the 10 hours I had to give it, so I went with Merlin's oak and some old DAZ oaks for background.

I'm still experimenting with what makes a good overtly fantasy scene vs. what makes a good "realistic" one.

Rendered in DAZ Studio 4.8 Public Beta in Iray.  No postwork, in this case.  The horns were made for this render.  The Fawne skin and the Fantastical Hooves legs are from Renderosity.  everything else is from DAZ3D.

Well, first let me just acknowledge that you are a far better Daz artist than me, and if I didn't have such a serious faun/satyr fetish, I probably wouldn't critique. Feel free do disregard anything/everything.

Overall, I like the piece. i love the skins on the fauns, you said they came from Rendo, do you have a like (I probably should just search Rendo). I usually don't like that style of antler on Fauns, but with that skin, the usual horns would look out of place, and the antlers are a good choice. The hair works as well.

Now for the not so good. The lizard lady in the back, what's her purpose? She just sort of looks like she was added to fill a hole. If there was some sort of interaction with her, it would work, but as is, a bush or flowers would have been a better choice for hole filler I think.

I have a couple small issues with the Fauns. While Human faces  fauns are fine, the Black nose isn't fine with human faces. I suspect this was part of the skins, I would remove the black if I was using a full human face. If you were using a mostly human face with a flat broad nose, that was slightly more animalistic, (such as Dariofish's Faunus Nose)  It would fit, but on a human face as this, it has the appearance of cheap face paint. See example here : lindseyburcar.deviantart.com/a… I'm sorry lindsey, if you see this, but the nose distracts from an otherwise decent cosplay.

My second issue, is the hairy legs.  There isn't enough transition between such a hairless body and the massively hairy legs, it again makes it look a lot like they are wearing fake legs.  I think it would work if you ditched the leg fur altogether, or did something like a Clydesdale ankle tuft, or brought the leg fur up blending the transition some more.

But again, I like the piece as a whole.
